Ojai Ayurveda Learning Retreat

All are welcome to attend this Ayurveda Intensive study. This provides participants an opportunity to deepen their knowledge in vital Ayurvedic topics as listed below in a retreat setting in the beautiful Ojai valley in California. The topics presented are ideal for those wanting to increase there knowledge of Ayurveda in general, for yoga teachers, health and wellness practitioners and anyone interested in getting away for a day or two to enjoy spiritual community and wisdom. Participants will also have the opportunity to partake in Ayurvedic healing treatments and there will be fun group activities offered in the evenings after dinner. 

*Accommodations are very limited at the retreat property however for those staying for several days there are many B & B or camping options in the Ojai area.

*Certification hours or continuing education credits will be given for those interested such as Yoga teachers or health practitioners. Approximately 10 hours per-day will be acknowledged for those who participate and you will be given a certificate for the number of days-hours completed.

DAY ONE

Date: Tuesday, October 23rd
Topic: Ayurvedic Herbology (Dravya Guna) PART ONE

Description: Herbology or dravya guna is one of the most vast and complex subjects in Ayurvedic science. Students will integrate the core principles of herbology according to the six tastes, gunas (qualities), effects on the doshas and learn various decoctions, preparations and uses for the herbs being discussed.


DAY TWO

Date: Wednesday, October 24th

Description:Ayurveda’s system of detoxification is a profound and powerful way to remove the excesses of the doshas from the body. Also, discussed is the importance of restoring (rasayana) the body’s energy and immunity while cleansing. Participants will also be taught some of the basic treatment protocals of Pancha Karma and enjoy experiencing the benefits in both group and individual exercises.

Date: Friday, October 26th

Topic: Svastta Vritta (Ayurvedic Preventative Medicine)

Description: Ayurveda provides the most natural and practical system of preventative health measures. A strong emphasis will be placed on how these techniques and practices can be integrated into your life. The methodology of svastta vritta will be taught in a fascinating lecture presentation.  Students-participants will also learn and practice various privative measures both individually and in groups.


DAY SIX

Date: Sunday, October 28th  
Topic: Raja Yoga & Jyotish (Integral Yoga and Vedic Astrology)
Teacher: Sam Geppi

Description: This special presentation integrates the wisdom of two of Ayurveda’s sister sciences. Both Raja yoga and Jyotish play as vital support systems for managing the doshas and promoting spiritual evolution as the essence of Vedic wisdom. The course will begin with a brief review of the main components of vedic astrology such as the role of the elements in understanding the rising, moon and sun signs, review of the houses and the dharmic value of each house, sign and the planets that influence them. This class will take a somewhat beginner level approach to teaching however it will build into more complex uses of the birth chart in determining constitution (prakriti) and imbalances (vikriti).


DAY SEVEN

Date: Monday, October 29th  
Topic: Roga Nidan & Kaya Chikitsa (Disease Pathology & Management)

Description:This topic is for students of ayurveda and those in the health and wellness field who want to learn management of diseases as per the ayurvedic system of tri-dosha.  Knowledge of the doshas, koshas, dhatus, srotas and anatomy and physiology is very helpful to fully benefit from this topic.

Dr. Ram Tamang (Herbology & Pancha Karma)

 Dr. Ram is a licensed Ayurvedic Doctor (BAMS) in India and Nepal from a prestigious MGR Medical University at Coimbatore, India. Dr. Ram also holds a Certificate as a Master Herbalist from GCNM, USA. In addition, Dr. Ram teaches Yoga for your body type as well as for specific mind/body imbalances. As a Partner with the Healing Gardens of Ayurveda, Dr. Ram has helped build and sustain a growing community of people passionate about the value of Ayurvedic Medicine. n addition to his full time clinical practice, Dr. Ram is in executive board member of the Council of Ayurvedic Research in USA. He is also a registered Ayurvedic Specialist with AAPNA.


Sam Geppi (Vedic Astrology & Yoga Psychology)

Sam Geppi (Sadasiva) is the author of "Yoga and Vedic Astrology" and "The Ascendant-108 Planets of Vedic Astrology". He is the founder of the American Academy of Vedic Art and Science - which offers level 1-3 Certification programs in Vedic Astrology. Currently the Academy has more than 250 students enrolled. Sam is certified level 1 and 2 through ACVA and CVA and was hired by Dattatreya Shiva Baba to teach the first Astroved Vedic Astrology Certification Program in 2010.


 Vijaya Stern ( Ayurveda Practitioner)

Vijaya Stern, Ayurvedic Naturopath, CMT is a well recognized teacher and practitioner of Ayurveda, since 1984. She has served as a Board of Director for the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. As a graduate of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM with Dr. Vasant Lad, and Clayton College of Natural Healing, Vijaya has also studied with several Indian Vaidyas in the U.S. and India. Vijaya’s teachings and services are offered throughout the US and abroad including Ayurveda, Pulse Diagnosis, PanchaKarma (ayurvedic rejuvenation).
